Hi Jan! Short intro round: who are you and what do you do at HelloBetter?
Hi! My name is Jan and I am part of the wonderful Patient Support Team at HelloBetter. The tasks of our team are quite varied. We serve as the primary point of contact for questions and requests from our patients, and we ensure that they have a smooth ride to and through our courses. My working days usually involve communication with our patients via phone and e-mail, as well as the management of a small number of projects.
I remember your unsolicited application vividly :) What made you apply back then?
Those were exciting times! I joined HelloBetter in February 2023, a few weeks after finishing my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology. What immediately attracted me was the strong psychological foundation found in HelloBetter’s employees, especially the Patient Support Team. I believe our Support Team truly stands out in this regard.
What’s one thing that you didn’t expect when you joined?
One of the classic behind-the-scenes realisations - Understanding how much effort, time, and love goes into creating a product like ours. Even if it appears simple and straightforward from the outside, a great deal of energy, care, & thought is required and invested.
It does take a village! How do you embrace HelloBetter’s remote-first culture: are you a remote bird or an office tiger?
Against my own expectations, I became a full on remote bird.

Does the Patient Support Team favour remote work primarily because you handle many phone calls daily?
This is indeed one of the main reasons why I favour working from home. It’s nice to have a calm and quiet environment when speaking with our patients on the phone.
What does your remote setup look like? Do you have any essentials?
Here is a little peek into my spaceship! Imagine it filled with the scents of rosemary, clary sage, or lavender - my three favorite essential oils. I love having a pleasant smell in the room while I work, so these have become one of my home office essentials.
Can you be flexible with your working time in your team?
On workdays, patients can reach us from 9:00 to 18:00. We therefore have a schedule for the week with fixed working hours. I usually cover the second half of the day. However, when we need to be flexible, we almost always find a solution within our team.
What’s your favourite aspect of working at HelloBetter?
The people! I could not imagine having lovelier colleagues.
The team ❤️ Do you have a favourite team ritual?
My favourite ritual of the Patient Support Team is answering the "Question of the Week" during our Wednesday meetings. It is a great way to connect with and get to know my colleagues better. This week's question is: If a museum had an exhibit about you, which three items would be displayed?
This is really cool! I’m curious now; which three items would be displayed?
Hehe! My three items would be my headphones, representing my love for (melancholic) music; a vintage chair from my room, showcasing my aesthetic taste; and a book on psychodynamics, highlighting my academic and professional path.

Reading how our courses help people is incredibly motivating and heart-warming.
If you could switch roles with anyone in the HelloBetter team for a day, who would it be and why?
Uh! I’m really curious about so many roles at HelloBetter! At the top of my list would be our Product Designer Jade. I adore the visual side of HelloBetter and I think graphic design could have been an alternative career path for me. Next would be Juliane from our Content Team. I would love to get a glimpse into how our courses are created. Switching roles with our Engineer Tabrez for a day would also be incredibly interesting. The work our engineers do is such a mystery to me, and I would love to understand it better. Lastly, experiencing the workday of Maren from our Services Team would be really cool. Since I aspire to become a psychotherapist myself, the work of our Services Team is probably closest to my heart.

After a workday, the first thing I usually do is treat myself to a delicious dinner. Afterwards, I like to dive into a good book, play a game of chess, or unwind with a show or movie. Right now, I’m hooked on ‘In Treatment’ – I highly recommend it!
